I have to admit to being a bit stupmed by your problem. I've never seen your exact symptoms in 30+ years of repairing LBCs. That said, I would tend to think that your problem is ignition related. Does this car have the original Lucas electronis or have they been replaced by an aftermarket kit? Anytime someone has a starting problem, you start with the ignition side of the house and make sure it's up to spec before moving to the carb. Please keep me/us posted.
